EP105: I'm So Nonphysical

The history of humans consuming eggs is extensive, spanning cultures and civilizations. Archaeological evidence suggests that early humans foraged for wild bird eggs, incorporating them into their diets for their nutritional value. As societies progressed, domestication of birds, particularly chickens, became widespread, leading to more reliable access to eggs. In ancient Rome, eggs held significance as a symbol of fertility and were consumed in various forms. In medieval Europe, eggs were a staple, particularly during Lent when meat consumption was restricted. The widespread cultivation of chickens during the Renaissance further solidified the centrality of eggs in human diets. Eggs have persisted as a versatile and affordable source of protein, and today they are a ubiquitous and culturally significant food item consumed in various forms across the globe.
