Join me for a conversation with Oakland based artist sachi's mirror about her new EP Room to Receive which comes out this Saturday, June 21st.
sachi’s mirror is the creative alias of Oakland-based experimental violinist and composer Shaina Pan. A classically-trained violinist who has collaborated with luminaries like Meredith Monk and Terry Riley, Pan found herself shifting towards composition and improvisation in the last five years, writing and performing as bassist/vocalist in art-punk quartet Juicebumps. Emboldened by her peers in the Bay Area experimental scene, she began weaving her violin into rich, texturally tactile electroacoustic compositions.
From those efforts emerged room to receive, her debut EP on Cone Shape Top Imprint. Across five tracks, Pan explores the sonic capabilities of her instrument, melding violin with synthesizers, field recordings, and voice to craft icy-hot string textures, crepuscular melodies, and pulsing emotional undercurrents.
