016 Gospel and the Civil Rights II

*DISCLAIMER* This is an episode from my former show What’s the Moooove that focused on Black music history. Once upon a time I had two radio shows here on BFF.fm but as a Virgo tends to do, I was stretching myself thin. I have since decided to combine both shows so that you the listener can get aaaaalll the musical black history you can get. Enjoy this throwback for the archives, I hope you learn something new :)

Since we covered the where and the groups last time, this week I’m going to be focusing more on individuals of gospel that were active in the civil rights movement: The badass gospel songwriter William Herbert Brewster of Memphis and my favorite to read about this session, Dorothy Love Coates.

I’m gonna chitchat about Fannie Lou Hamer, a name we hear about, a face that we have seen but do you know why she’s significant?
